Activities Director

Our Activities Director Must:

• Be easily adaptable to change, embrace it and run with it when the need arises

• Have the ability to oversee their assigned homes as outlined by the calendar

• Ensure that all company policies, procedures are observed at all times with the goal of achieving 100% participation by the Residents whenever possible

• Have a creative outlook when approaching scheduling of activities

• Provide non-medical assistance when the need arises

• Provide therapeutic activities to help with different physical, mental or psychosocial needs, such as socialization

• Assist the direct care staff in keeping the residents involved in the unit socially, cognitively, and recreationally

• Identify changes in Residents recognized during activities to the Caregiver and/or Administrator

• Be able to prepare program, reviews program notes and goals, and prepares report

• Must be able to order and maintain the supplies necessary to support the activity program working within the budget provided by the Administrator

• Ensure that scheduled programming is carried out seven days per week (provide a calendar for weekend Caregivers to implement)

• Activities Directors are integral to providing our Residents stimulating activities to assist in their current state of mind as well as to provide laughter and joy, reinforcing the atmosphere in our Homes.

*Pre-Hire Required Qualifications:

• Possess experience with Senior care

• Pass the background check and drug test

• Have experience in specific activity needs of Alzheimer’s or dementia care

• Have a passion for helping others

• Possess excellent communication and social skills

• Have strong computer skills including word and excel

• Possess a minimum of two years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which was full-time in an activities program in a health care setting providing activities for the elderly with Alzheimer’s or dementia 

• Must possess effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, stable emotional make-up, creative, caring, able to work under stress

• Have the ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner, honoring boundaries, setting limits and maintaining confidentiality are a must

• Must be able to plan, implement and evaluate an ongoing activity program

• Must be able to meet physical demands of lifting and moving over fifty pounds, walking and standing for long periods of time.

• Possess a great deal of creativity and flexibility

• Be able to work some weekends and holidays as determined with Administrator

• Be able to work on an occasional on-call basis per agreement with Administrator

Major Duties:

• Plan and implement activities appropriate to the varying needs of our Residents with dementia

• Plan and implement activities appropriate to the varying needs of our Residents with dementia

• Act in the best interest of Haven Care at all times

• Completes all assigned courses relating to Activities as assigned by the Administrator

• Must be able to provide direct care and supervision for residents when necessary

• Plan a monthly calendar with activities and events to meet the physical, spiritual, psychosocial and recreational needs of our population including specialized activities for persons in all stages of dementia

• The calendar should be varied and contain:

• Sensory Stimulation Activities

• Reminiscing Activities

• Physical Exercise – walking outside or active games

• Arts & Crafts appropriate to the Resident

• Music & Movement Therapies

• Parties & Special Holiday Activities

• One-to-one activities for any bed-bound or low-functioning Residents

• Neighborhood Outings (walks with wheelchairs for non-walkers)

• Gardening (in the spring/summer months)

• Baking and/or decorating cookies
